Freshwater aquarium plants not only add an important ingredient to the lives of the fish you keep but they can add dimension and color to any setting.
The beauty of freshwater aquarium plants is that they are versatile, can be changed to suit any location, and add simple beauty to any home.
Freshwater aquarium plants add vibrancy to your display and not only that, they help to maintain the water and provide safe havens in which your fish can hide.
Live plants do require some care and upkeep, just the same as regular houseplants, but if you don't wish to be burdened with the extra care required, there are a vast selection of artificial plants that can handle many of the same functions.
Live plants may require more care and attention, but in the long run they are simply more beneficial to any freshwater aquarium display.
Not to mention your fish will absolutely love them! Plants need light.
Freshwater aquarium plants are no different and as long as there is sufficient light available, and you avoid housing plant-eating fish, then there should be little need for a lot of attention or care.
Photosynthesis is the process by which plants convert sunlight into oxygen, so if you provide enough natural light, then your aquarium will have sufficient oxygen for all of your fish.
Sufficient sunlight adds to a well-balanced environment within your aquarium.
Aquatic plants do require nutrients to grow as well as to help their roots attach to substance, such as stones, displays, or the bottom of the aquarium.
The roots provide aquatic plants with much of the nutrients required to grow in a healthy environment and last for years of enjoyment.
Different plants will have different nutrient requirements, so it's important to know what kind of plant fertilizers and additives may be required in your aquarium.
When deciding on which freshwater aquarium plants to use, keep in mind the kind of filter you're using.
Some plants cannot handle strong currents well, will not be able to root, and won't survive.
While the pump and filtration system you have in place may not seem all that strong, for delicate marine life it may be more like a typhoon.
You want your plants to have a chance to root and make the aquarium their home.
Before setting out to choose plants and set them in place, design a layout you will find interesting and that will work for the setup you have in place currently.
If you already have fish, determine which plants they tend to be attracted to for shelter -remember, all animals, including humans, feel more comfortable in a shelter of some kind.
Fish are no different.
If you choose live plants, some pruning may be required.
Freshwater aquarium plants add vibrancy and life to any aquarium.
They can also add years of enjoyment of comfort to your fish.
It can also provide a fun daily game for you when you look in upon your fish and try to locate them hiding among their colorful, life-sustaining companions.
