How to Remove City Pests
- 1). Place ultrasonic mouse deterrents in your home if mice are the issue. Ultrasonic mouse deterrents emit high-frequency sounds that keep mice away. Humane and ethical, ultrasonic mouse deterrents cause no harm to the pests and are easy to install. Most are simply plugged into outlets in your home. Humans cannot hear the high-pitched noises; however, rodents can. Therefore, the ultrasonic deterrents may keep other pests away, as well.
- 2). Sprinkle borax around the baseboards of your home if roaches are a problem. Borax is a laundry additive that is harmful to insects if ingested. When the cockroaches walk in the borax, the product will cover their legs. The roaches will then lick to clean themselves and ingest the borax, ultimately dying as a result. You can also sprinkle borax in your cupboards or other areas you have seen the pests. Keep the borax away from animals and children, as ingestion can cause harm.
- 3). Place traps around your home to capture rats. Humane rat traps lure the pests in with food and then make it impossible for the rat to escape. Place an apple, raw bacon or peanut butter inside the trap in areas you have seen rats or suspect them to populate. Basements and attics are often ideal spots for rats to nest. Once you have captured the rat, contact your county's animal control for release instructions. If you purchase a trap that kills the rats, place the dead rodents in a plastic trash bag and place it in your outdoor trash can for disposal. Ultrasonic mouse deterrents may also be effective in keeping rats away.
