Hawaii law states that an enclosed building is any building with a roof or overhang. The law covers hotel and condo rooms, but extends to patios and covered walkways as well. - Hotels and condos are allowed to designate 20 percent of their rooms as smoking. If you are a smoker, you may be able to find a smoking room if you shop around. If you are a non-smoker, you can look for a hotel or condo that is 100 percent smoke free.
- Large fines may be imposed for smoking where you are not supposed to in Hawaii.
The individual fine is $50 plus court costs. A business that commits the offense will be fined $100 to $500. Some hotels may impose the fine onto non-compliant guests for putting them at risk.
