Delayed flights There are a number of criteria that define if the flight comes under the delayed category or not.
Rules regarding the same may vary from one country to another.
In case of Europe, the distance of the route and length of delay are evaluated to judge whether the flight can be considered delayed or not.
For instance, if a flight is late by two hours and has to travel 1500 kilometres or less, it can be called delayed.
Passengers can claim compensation in such cases.
This rule is applicable on both international flight schedules and domestic ones.
Usually, free meals and refreshments are arranged for passengers.
In case, people have to spend an entire day or night, carriers are obliged to arrange accommodation as well.
In case the service is not initiated even after five hours of international flight schedules, passengers can ask for full refund as the new arrangement may not be of their use after the delay.
However, if the airline proves that the delay was caused due to extraordinary circumstances, which are beyond its control, no compensation is paid in such cases.
In case of three hours delay, monetary compensation, which is equal to the refund given on voluntary cancellation, is offered to passengers.
Hence, travellers planning a vacation can check rules regarding compensations for delayed flights in their destination cities in order to exercise their rights.
