History of the Museum

Egypt National Museumwas first established in Boulak. In 1891, it was shifted to Giza Palace of "Ismail Pasha". The establishment housed plenty of antiquities which were later relocated to the existing building where it is located now. Presently Egyptian Museum is located at Tahrir square in Cairo for its visitors. The plan for this establishment came into action during the monarchy of Khedive AbbassHelmi II in 1897, and it was inaugurated on November 15, 1902.

Interior design/arrangement of the museum

The internal arrangement of Egypt National Museum is typically different and interesting enough. There are two floors in the museum: these are ground floor and first floor. The ground floor displays the artifacts according toits chronological age but on the upper floor artifacts are displayed on the basis of their availability in the tombs like Pharaohs like Tutankhamen, Nefertiti, etc. However, on the second floor some rare royal mummies are placed.

The ground floor houses an extensive collection of papyrus notes and coins from ancient Egypt. The papyrus pieces are written with several different languages like Greek, Latin, Arabic, and ancient Egyptian. The coins on display are all made of different types of metals like bronze, silver, and gold and surprisingly they are from different sources like Greece, Rome, etc. Some of them are of Islamic convention and some coins are from Egyptian origin. From these coins historians have anticipated a vivid picture of ancient Egyptian trade.

The ground floor of Egypt National Museum contains artifacts from New Kingdom between 1550 and 1069 BC. Larger in size, these ancient historic emblems are of Egyptian tradition, which include several statues, coffins, tables, etc. The first floor houses numerous artifacts from two major ruling dynasties of Egypt including items from Amenophis II, Pharaohs Thutmosis III, Hatshepsut,Thutmosis IV, and the courtier Maiherpri.
