1) Location
Perpignan-Rivesaltes airport, also known as Llabanre Airport is situated in the Pyrenees-Orientales (Languedoc-Roussillon region) of France. As this airport guide will reveal, the airport is about five kilometres northwest of Perpignan City. It is accessed via junction 41 of the A9 motorway.

2) Size
This is a small airport and it has two runways, one is 2500 metres in length and the other is 1260 metres in length. The airport sees up to 700,000 passengers per year.

3) Safety Record
On 27 November 2008 an Airbus A320 operating for XL Airways Germany crashed during a test flight from Perpignan-Rivesaltes Airport. The aircraft crashed into the Mediterranean Sea killing all seven that were onboard.

4) Flights
Aer Lingus provides flights to Dublin in Ireland, Air France provides flights to France. Bmi baby flies to Manchester in England, Flybe to Southampton and Birmingham. Ryanair provides flights to London Stanstead, Bristol, Manchester and Brussels.

5) Hotels
There is a good selection of Perpignan Airport hotels located conveniently close to the airport, which are useful for passengers who may have an early flight. The Comfort Inn Perpignan Aroport hotel is only two kilometres form the airport, the Novotel Perpignan is 3 kilometres from the airport and is conveniently close to the areas beaches. There are many other hotels close by changing from luxury hotels to cheaper options for travellers on a budget.

6) Transport to and from airport
There are plenty of bus services available at the airport departing for Perpignan City and Andorra. Also, there is a shuttle bus that takes travellers to the train station. Taxi services are available from just outside the airport terminal and there are a number of well known car hire companies in operation at the airport.

7) Entertainment options
A great way to while away the time before a departure is by browsing the various shops at the airport terminal. There is a boutique at the central hall of the airport selling national and international newspapers as well as confectionery, local produce and a selection of wines from the Pyrnes-Orientales. There is also a restaurant for hungry passengers on the 1st floor that has al a carte menus, take away meals as well as sandwiches and snacks. There is a bar at the restaurant and also in the airport hall.

High-speed wireless internet access is available in the arrivals and departure halls and also in the boarding lounges.

8) Attractions close to the airport and Perpignan
The city of Perpignan is about five kilometres from the airport. Perpignan itself has few attractions but it is an attractive city and makes for the most convenient place to stay in the region. 15kms from the Perpignan is the Beautiful town of Ceret, the former home of Matisse. The town has many cafs and art shops and is full of character with its narrow streets and small open squares. There is also a modern art museum here displaying works by Picasso, Salvador Dali and Chagall amongst others. There are some long sandy beaches here as well and it is not far from the Cte Vermeille.
Fort de Salses located 20kms from Perpignan is a beautiful Catalan (Spanish) stronghold dating from the 15th century. The castle is a listed Historic Monument.

The town of Elne 12kms form Perpignan sits on a narrow strip of lowland that separates the Mediterranean from the foothills of the eastern Pyrenees. There are stunning views of the mountains here and it has an interesting and long history that includes Hannibal and his elephants stopping here on their way to Italy in the 3rd century BC. There is also the beautiful 11th century Sainte-Eulalie-et-Sainte-Julie Cathedral at Elne.
