Cravings that we have every now and then are as natural as anything in our life.
What many people don't know is that cravings are only part of a binging cycle, most of us will eat for the shear fact they're bored or they've seen an ad that made them think of that particular food.
Not to mention that some of us have reached the extent of being addicted to food no different than any other addiction such alcoholism and drugs.
The question would be: what foods do we consider to be addictive? Which foods will make our systems dependent on them on the long run? There is no clear cut answer for you on that, since almost anything in excess can be addictive.
Here's a list of the most commonly reported addictives: Sugar Sugar definitely tops the list, since it is the number one craving of many people around the world.
People crave it because of the kick it gives us when we're down or tired.
Sugar, however; makes your system crash after a while, you find yourself exhausted and edgy.
What's the best thing to do in such a case? Try to cut on sugar packed foods, such as candy, sweets, and soda.
With time your cravings will vanish! Caffeine You wouldn't like more than a cup of Joe in the morning? If you're a caffeine fiend, you probably know how it feels to resist coffee: torture.
How can you know if you're addicted? If you keep on re-filling that coffee maker, then you are definitely addicted.
The key is to curb your caffeine intake by trying to eliminate: coffee, soda, and other caffeine rich foods.
Carbohydrates What? Don't scream your lungs out and ask "What's left?" Many people object to the fact that carbohydrates are on this list.
Can you resist making a sandwich when you bring in fresh bread? Can you not make pasta if it's on the shelf? Although it is not as obvious as the previous too, people are indeed addicted to carbs.
They've become dependent on them; our meals are based on their presence.
For some countries, they cannot possibly have lunch without bread on the table.
What should you do? Limit your servings of carbs everyday; don't reach for bread and pasta whenever they're at an arm's reach.
Food Rehab The final question to address: is there a rehab for food addicts? Your best choice of rehab is actually planning and sticking to your plan, know what you're going to eat throughout the day and don't snack.
All it takes is a bit of determination and patience to get the results needed.
The dilemma many of us face in front of addictions is the fact we cannot resist temptation.
The key for determining if you're addicted to food or caffeine is to try to go for one day without it.
Do you feel withdrawal symptoms, if so; make sure you wean yourself away from it the next morning.
Doctors can also aid you on your rehab journey.
They can help you find someone to talk to, or direct you to a support group.
Support groups are a wonderful idea, since humans by nature bring better results in group activities.
If going to an offline group is such a hassle, you can always try those online support groups; easy to access and free of charge, you can log in and communicate with other peers without leaving the comfort of your home.
Just remember that every addiction can be uprooted from your life if you make the effort.
Don't give up and remember that there are thousands of people facing the very same addiction as you!
