Many women choose not to have their ears pierced but, that doesn't mean that they still cannot enjoy wearing a nice pair of earrings at least once in a while. The truth is that many women who do not have pierced ears are reluctant to wear them because they have been told that clip on earrings are uncomfortable and in many case can actually hurt when you wear them for an extended period of time. While this is true of some of some types knowing how to choose the right type for you can eliminate a lot of that discomfort you hear about.
Here are some tips for choosing a non pierced earring that will be comfortable to wear.

- Look for the screw on type earring. These are designed to look a bit like a vice in the back. They usually have a small loop that goes around the base of the ear and then a small screw like device that you screw into your ear. What makes these earrings more comfortable is that you can wear them as loose as you would like. However, keep in mind that the heavier the earring is the tighter you will need to turn the screw to hold the earring on your ear. So, try to choose lightweight earrings.

- When choosing clip on earrings choose one that has a wider clip. The wider clip will cover more of the earlobe which means that the pinch will be less because it is spread over a wider area. Also if you choose a wider clip and it is still uncomfortable you may be able to attach a small cushion pad to the inside of the clip to cushion your ear from the force of the clip.

- If possible try on the earring before purchasing it. If the earring feels uncomfortable in the store then likely it is not going to feel any more comfortable once you get the earring home and try to wear it.
Keep in mind that if you are wearing clip on earrings for the first time they are going to probably feel a bit uncomfortable simply because you have never worn them before and your ears aren't used to having the weight of the earring on them. Just like new shoes you may have to break your earrings in before they feel comfortable to wear for an extended period of time.

You also need to remember that there are new styles of these earrings coming on the market all the time as manufacturers and designers attempt to make earrings with fresh new looks that are more comfortable to wear. So just because you find these earrings uncomfortable today doesn't mean there won't be a style that will be perfectly comfortable a month from now. And also remember if those dazzling clip on earrings do begin to hurt you can always slip them off and put them in your purse after you have made your grand entrance looking elegant and well put together.
