Our eating habits have become a much studied subject.
There are raging controversies surrounding them just as there are thousands of theories about what we should and should not eat.
A multi-billion dollar industry thrives on teaching us to eat right.
Even so, weight problems have become the biggest epidemic of this century.
  Why? The reasons are complex.
But, suffice it to say that the food industry has made it very difficult for us to eat right.
Did you know that serving sizes have tripled in the last twenty years and that container sizes have doubled? The number of fast food chains has quadrupled and they stay in business by giving the simple act of eating much more meaning that it was meant to be.
In the distant past, eating was just a way of putting fuel into the body.
Before fast foods and preservatives hit us, the business of eating was simple.
Rarely did people have the time or reason to overeat.
Today, it takes an iron will to abstain from overeating.
Temptations are always in the face.
Steering yourself and your family away from unhealthy eating requires a lot of planning and hard work.
But, you can still learn how to avoid eating too much and start eating right.
-    Eat only when you feel hungry -    Eat six small meals throughout the day instead of three main meals -    Eating right begins in the mind and it starts from an intense desire to stop eating too much of the wrong kinds of food -    Drink plenty of water -    Use natural foods -    Eat more home cooked food -    Plan your meals beforehand -    Do not eat while you are involved in other activities -    Limit social eating -    Read up on the effects of eating too much fast foods and you will automatically take to eating right Eating right is beneficial not just to ourselves but for the generations to come.
After all, food habits are learnt unconsciously and are mostly passed on from generation to generation.
