    • 1). Tell your child to stop where they are and wait if they are lost. Let your child know you will always be looking for her if she goes missing, so she should stay where she is so you can find her.

    • 2). Provide your younger child with a whistle or other noise-making device to use in the event he is lost and alone. He can use this to signal where he is, making it easier for you to find him.

    • 3). Give your older child a cell phone to use if she gets lost so she can call you or another family member. As of June 2011, many cell phone models are global positioning system enabled, making it possible for police to locate your child using the cell phone signal.

    • 4). Tell your child to seek out a police officer or security guard if he gets lost. Explain to your child that the police officer or security guard will help him locate you.

    • 5). Walk through different scenarios your child may find herself in if she is lost, such as a stranger offering her a ride or being alone in the woods. Help her devise a plan for each scenario and realistically practice what she will say and do. This will assist her in making the right choice in the event she really does get lost.
