What Are The Main Types Of Hair Loss?

There are more types of hair loss for women than there are for men. Women in particular seem to now be suffering hair loss in greater numbers than ever before and this seems to be attributed to our stress filled lifestyle and often bad diets.

The main stress related hair loss presents itself as a condition called alopecia areata. This is characterized as a series of balding patches that can be quite small to very noticeable indeed. There is no real idea as to what causes this but research is now showing that there is a direct link between the developing of this condition and stress - in fact in up to 35% of cases. This is something that women can't ignore so it's important to identify what is causing the stress and try to reduce or eliminate it.

Much of what happens to your body is what is happening around you and what you eat so to try and treat symptoms without looking at the cause means that it is likely to happen again and this time it could be much worse. YOU must look and try and identify causes.

OK - now so what are the main types of hair loss?

I have just mentioned one above which is commonly known as alopecia areata. There are several other including traction alopecia which is where you are pulling or brushing your hair too aggressively. This is extremely prevalent amongst teenagers. Quite often it can also be a compulsive disorder so if you notice your daughter exhibiting these signs observe without intruding and then if you notice something wrong in her behaviour get help from a counselor or a doctor as it may be an indication of other problems!

Another cause is medication. Acne treatments in particular can cause severe hair loss in teenagers, boys and girls! So again if you see a noticeable amount of hair loss in your son or daughter and they are taking medication for acne - stop. Find another cure for the acne otherwise you are going to have two conditions to cure.

The last type I will deal with here is sadly cancer treatment. Especially chemotherapy. Hopefully the treatment works. If it doe and you a women - hair usually starts to grow back within three months. If you male - it can take a lot longer - perhaps never. It just depends o the follicle damage..

These are the major types of hair loss you should be aware of and luckily in most cases treatments are quick and effective.
