- 1). Locate the cause of the mold. Look for water leaking from a pipe under a sink, toilet or behind the shower stall. Check outside lighting for any unsealed areas that are allowing moisture to gather. Check out AC and heating vents. It is essential to eliminate any problem that causes the buildup of unwanted moisture before fixing the mold itself.
- 2). Mix a solution of borax laundry detergent with warm water. Scrub or sponge the affected mold area. This step will work for hard surfaces such as walls, sinks and appliances. Sponge porous areas such as seat cushions.
- 3). Spray a fine mist of hydrogen peroxide through the AC and heating vents to remove any mold buildup. This can be accomplished with a long-wand mister pump. Be sure to have containers or rags to catch the fluid as it escapes from vents' other ends.
- 4). Sponge or spray white vinegar onto mold and wipe off. Vinegar has the ability to kill the mold spores that spread bacteria.
