Night Tantrums - How to Deal With It
Night tantrums is one of the many tantrums that I found very tiring.
I used to feel all stressed up when it was my baby sleeping time.
Night tantrums occurs at night when we are ready to relax and sleep.
To deal with tantrums at night is definitely the last thing I was looking for.
Most parents will either ignore it or give in.
Both have their own pros and cons.
If you ignore it, hopefully, your toddler will eventually get tired and stop the night tantrums by herself.
However, you do not know how long it is going to take for your toddler to get tired and before she can stop you might actually start shouting and yelling at your child.
That is something you should never do.
The thing is it might happen again tomorrow night or any other night or even every night after that.
The second option is to give in.
Well, to give in will definitely quiet the night tantrums.
But she is going to do the same thing tomorrow night and night after that.
You see the picture.
I, personally, went to this stage with my daughter.
She woke up in the middle of night wanting to watch cartoon.
After I refused for a while, she started throwing tantrums in the middle of the night.
I desperately wanted to sleep.
What do you think I did? Yes.
I switched on the TV for her.
What a mistake! She woke up every night after that asking for the same thing.
It is so strange that such a cute little baby can turn into monster in a second if she does not get what she wants and that can last for hours.
Though it is normal for your toddler to go through such stage, it does not mean you can not fix it.
It is better to deal with it now than leave it hoping it will one day stop.
Sure, it might stop at some point but it is not a healthy option.
If there is something bothering your child.
You need to find out.
Try to look for the root of the problem.
Night tantrums is the symptom not the problem.
What has triggered them to cause the night tantrums? Are they seeking attention? Are they hungry, tired or sick? Lacking security? What is the root of the tantrums? Fixing the root will certainly solve not only the night tantrums but tantrums.
The pre-sleeping time should be more of a relaxing atmosphere rather than excitement.
Try to calm your baby down a little before sleeping time.
Do the sitting activity rather than jumping around.
Read story book is one good option to help your toddler get into a more relaxing mode.
Be consistent with whatever you are doing.
Create a routine where you child will know what to expect.
To do what before and after does not really matter.
To shower first then eat or eat first and then shower does not make a difference.
But the most important thing is to make a routine out of it.
Try to be consistent with that.
