A dentist at a local dental office said he's been doing some sedation dentistry for many years now. They consider the ease of extracting wisdom teeth, root canals and crowns with calm patients as a great advantage.

Patients are given medication by mouth that causes them to be more relaxed, often they go to sleep, but it leaves them conscious enough to respond. The type and amount vary depending on individualized needs of the patient. The apprehension level of the patient is a big customizing factor. If others went well with one dose, others will need more.

A particular dentist claims he could not attribute any issue related to the use of oral conscious sedation. Proper training seals the safety of the procedure. You only start worrying once you took over 35 pills. However, it will never be appropriate for pregnant or nursing women.
