This has therefore led to the invention and manufacture of mobility equipment such as wheelchairs.
With this tool, disabled individuals can increase their mobility and sense of independence.
The history of mobility devices has shown major evolutions in the available equipments or devices.
The earlier devices released for use by physically disabled individuals were a bit mechanical.
But as technology continued to develop, there are a lot of wheelchairs and mobility devices that are now equipped with electronic features.
Aside from wheelchairs, you can now avail of walkers, mobility scooters, stair lifts, lift chairs, vehicle lifts, ramps, and many others.
Wheelchairs are the most popular, convenient, and simplest tool to operate though among all other mobility devices invented for use by physically disabled individuals.
Thus, physically impaired individuals can effectively move without outside help, whether at home, commuting, or wherever they need to go.
Today, there are two types of wheelchairs available in the market: those equipped with self-movement, and those with supported movement.
In self-movement principles, the individual must use the force of his or her hand to push the mobility chair forward wherein force is directed to both wheels placed on either sides.
Thus, they can move the chair on their own without anyone's help.
The second type require someone to push the chair to trigger movement.
From these two basic types of wheelchairs available in the market, it has evolved to showcase battery operated ones.
In addition to the regular features of a mobility chair, they are also equipped with breaks such that the physically disabled individual can control the speed at which the wheelchair moves.
More advance types such as mobility scooters and other such equipments can perform more complex tasks including traveling in longer distances, aside from your usual mobile activities.
Thus, it only goes to show that physical limitation is not enough to limit how much a physically disabled individual is capable of doing.
