How to Clean a Pewter Tankard
- 1). If the pewter tankard has held beverages or is otherwise very dirty, clean it with dish soap and water, rinse it well and dry it with a soft cloth.
- 2). Bring the polish to a high shine with the recipe, offered by german-toasting-glasses.com or by using a commercial pewter polish. If you choose to use the home recipe, place 1/4 cup of flour in a measuring cup, add a teaspoon of table salt and mix in white vinegar until you've created a thin paste.
- 3). Apply the paste (or a commercial polish) using a soft cloth. Rub the paste over the polished finish, using small circular movements with the cloth. Use another cloth to remove the excess polish. Buff the pewter tankard to a high shine.
- 1). Fill the tankard with warm water. Add a drop of liquid dish detergent.
- 2). Gently scrub the inside and outside of the pewter tankard with a soft sponge.
- 3). Rinse the tankard with warm water and dry it well with a soft cloth or towel.
