    • 1). Scrape out all the grout between the tiles with a sharp utility knife to isolate the tiles from each other. This makes the tiles easier to remove.

    • 2). Use a heat gun on a low setting to blow hot air onto the caulk between the shower pan and the tiles to soften the caulk. You can use a hair dryer instead if you don't have a heat gun. Remove the softened caulk with a utility knife.

    • 3). Tap the tiles with your hands to remove any loose tiles that easily come off. Sometimes water seepage causes tiles to become loose, especially near the plumbing fixtures or shower pan.

    • 4). Push a putty knife that is about 2 to 3 inches wide between two tiles, carefully breaking any leftover grout. Pry the tiles off the wall one at a time with an inward and upward motion. Don't worry about tearing the paper face of the wallboard.

    • 5). Use a vacuum cleaner to remove dust and debris from the area.
