Things to Store in Kitchen Drawers

    Silverware

    • Your silverware should be in the top drawer, since you'll use your spoons, forks and knives more often than anything else. Inserting a silverware organizer allows you to separate these items. Depending on the size of your drawer, you may have space for cutting knives or a few larger spoons in this drawer.

    Cooking Utensils

    • As you cook, you'll need things like large spoons for stirring, spatulas, vegetable peelers and garlic presses. Keep a separate drawer for these items that you might not need on a daily basis. Some might store cutting knives in this drawer, but if you have small children, use a safety lock to prevent accidents.

    Small Tools

    • Though you might keep a hammer and hand saw in the basement or shed, it's smart to keep certain small tools handy. These include scissors, screwdrivers and a measuring tape.

    Clean Towels and Potholders

    • You never know when you'll have a spill, so it's smart to keep clean towels in a drawer in the kitchen. Additionally, everyone occasionally needs to use a potholder to take something out of the oven or to set something down on the counter. Store these items together.

    Pots, Pans and Lids

    • Some homes have deep drawers, which are perfect for storing pots, pans and their lids. Even if you don't have these type of drawers, you may want to reserve a space for loose lids, since it's likely that you'll have to nestle pots inside each other in the cabinets. Storing the lids separately keeps your cabinets tidy.
