Nearly every one of us gets afflicted with back pain some time or other in our life.
The pain can be either mild that vanishes on its own or it can be severe enough to decapitate you from doing your regular routine.
Whichever way, back pain can be quite distressing to make you lose focus on whatever job you are doing.
So what is best way to manage this irritant? We are all familiar with cliché antidotes like taking adequate rest, resorting to oral medications and applying various massage methods.
Though it is a fact that any or a combination of the above methods do provide relief, we tend to lose sight of the most important aspect that needs attention, and that is proper posture.
Improper posture without doubt, is the single most important factor that cause all back problems.
In most cases, all you need to do is to correct your posture and presto you have won the battle against back pain.
Why bad posture causes back problems? Human body is designed to have a posture that optimally distributes weight on our spine and joints.
Poor posture creates an imbalance that will shift extra weight on to the joints.
Over a period, these imbalances cause degeneration that is forerunner of more serious conditions such as spinal deterioration, arthritis and disc bulges.
Correcting the posture Luckily, for most people, a simple solution like correcting the posture goes a long way in alleviating pain and distress.
Here are some tips to keep your posture in a proper way at all times.
•Stand straight at all times.
A curved back increases stress on your back •Maintain an ergonomic sitting position at your work place.
If you are working on a computer, take a break by getting up and taking a stroll every 30 minutes or so.
•If you need to lift a heavy item from the floor, bend both your knees and keep your spine straight.
Lift the item by keeping it as close to your body as possible •While driving, avoid long journeys at a stretch.
Be seated on your driver seat in a relaxed position.
Use a cushion for backrest if the car seat does not provide you with adequate support.
In my own experience, a cushion with cotton stuffing provides the best comfort.
A word of caution Though correcting the posture works in most cases, some forms of severe back pain may indicate further necessitating investigation by a medical specialist.
It is best to consult your doctor, if back pain persists even after conventional treatment.
