Mobility scooters are beneficial to individuals with limited mobility. They grant them the freedom to get around. Outdoors or indoors, scooters provide disabled people and the elderly the chance to get around. While some scooters must remain on the sidewalk, others can, where the laws allow it, hit the road. This includes both 6 & 8 MPH scooters.

Availability of 4, 5, 6 & 8 MPH scooters

It is easy to obtain 4, 5, 6 & 8 MPH scooters. Several models and brands are currently sold in retail outlets and online around the world. You have a choice between electrical and battery driven models. There are mobility scooters that are basic. You can also purchase deluxe models that come with every bell and whistle you can think of. If you can, attend a show featuring the latest offering from the manufacturers. It can be as much a thrill as attending a car show.

On the Pavement or On the Road?

While some scooters are meant for indoor use only, this is not the case with other, more heavily constructed scooters. While not valid for the road, 4MPH scooters are built to ride on pavement and are easy to operate in shopping malls, convention centres and other related places. Travel scooters, with a top speed of 5 MPH, are comparable to 4 MPH in uses. Boot scooters are compact and meant to be folded in the boot of a car for easy loading, transporting and unloading.

On the other side are scooters designed specifically to handle both the pavement and the road. These include 6 & 8 MPH scooters.

€ 6 MPH Scooter: This type of scooter is perfect for using on both the pavement and the road. It is a great vehicle to use for trips that are longer than to the corner store. It can go down the road, literally and figuratively (the laws allowing) to visit family and friends. This type of scooter tends to be heavier, more stable and less portable than the slower models.

€ 8 MPH Scooters: Both the 6 & 8 MPH scooters are ideal for travelling on either the pavement or the road. In many places, the 8 MPH is road legal as long as it is fitted with the proper devices. These include indicators and lights. A larger scooter than most, it is not designed to be folded into the trunk of a car. It is more durable and able to go off-road - or at least is able to handle rougher terrain.

A scooter of this type usually has a removable and adjustable seat. If you are lucky enough to buy a luxury model, you may even have a sliding and reclining seat as well as a head rest.

Mobility scooters serve an important purpose. These single-seat vehicles help the disabled and elderly get around. They provide a sense of independence. The can restore self-esteem to those who no longer are allowed to drive a car or truck. When given the chance to be the driver of 6 & 8 MPH scooters, people can hit the road once more.
