Organic Pest Control for Eating Leaves & Disease in Plum Trees
Plum Curculio
- The plum curculio insect attacks stone fruit trees like plums, peaches and apricots as well as apples and pears. According to the Michigan State University Integrated Pest Management program, spraying a heavy coating of kaolin clay insect repellent creates a protective white film that helps repel plum curculio. Pyrethum-based repellents formulated for stone fruit application may also be effective. Other organic plum curculio approaches include grazing hogs beneath the trees to remove any fallen infested fruit, and planting trap crops such as Liberty apples around the perimeter of a plum orchard.
