Research Design for the Ph D Scholars of Medical Science
Research Design for the Ph D Scholars of Medical Science
Introduction
The author of this article has taken one Research problem in Medical Science field as an example to explain the concept of Research Design to the Ph D Scholars who are doing research in Medical Science.
As we know Research Design is the blueprint of the Research process for the Research problem chosen ( ie ) Problem definition, hypothesis formulation, Sampling frame, Sampling, data collection, analysis / testing of hypothesis, report writing.
Research Approach
For collecting data any one of the following Research approaches could be adopted viz,
1) Historical research
Studying the past history which are available in the books, reports, records, video / Audio forms, etc.
2) Descriptive research
Descriptive research is of two types viz a) Questioning and b) Observation
3) Experimental research
Giving treatment on objects and measuring the results after treatment
4) Case study research
Taking few cases and studying carefully from all the possible angles for a considerable time to gather data.
A researcher can adopt any one or more of the above research approaches to collect data depending on the magnitude of the problem, available resources, accessibility for the source of data, etc.
Sampling
Collecting data from whom? from how many people? Answer to this is the Sampling method that he should adopt. As we know the Sampling methods could be classified into two viz a) Random sampling and 2)Non Random sampling.
Researcher can collect data using the Research tools viz,
1) Questionnaire
2) Scientific measuring meters
3) evaluation through Observation, etc
Analysis
Using statistical tools like Chi square, ANOVA, Correlation, etc.
Report Writing
Based on research findings the Researcher writes the report.
example
Title
Study on the benefits of exercise given to Face of the body
Need of the Research Problem
Normally, People give physical exercise to all parts of the body. But to the part" Face " they give less importance in exercising. The part Face also has nerves and blood circulates in those areas which influences of the function of the brain. Hence any knowledge added to the existing knowledge will help the medical field and hence this research.
Research Approaches
The researcher can adopt all the Research approaches mentioned.
The researcher can use experimental research and Case study approaches to conduct the research.
The researcher can take a sample size of 30 patients affected by Brain stroke as experimental group and conduct research on them.
The research can be through collecting data on capability on speaking, memory, etc before and after providing the physical exercise to the face of the body. The exercise to the face could be like opening and closing the mouth for say 50 times at a particular time interval.
The exercise training to the patients could be given for a period of say one month ( not straining the patient too much )
After collecting data the Researcher can use statistical tools like ANOVA, Correlation, etc to arrive at findings.
expected Benefits of the study
To know whether any advantage is there by providing exercise to the face of the body particularly to the Brain stroke affected patients.
To know exercising the face helps to improve the beauty of the persons.
To know whether this exercise could be adopted as an stress relieving method for the employees engaged in Desk work ( not meeting people where there is scope exists for exercising face )
