The Flag Halyard Chair
Many of his chairs are continue to be internationally recognized as classics.
Hans Wegner excelled in his field by demanding high quality thoughtful design with an emphasis on comfort and human engineering.
As a passionate contributor to the modern mid-century design movement, Hans Wegner considered the chair not just a piece of furniture but a work of art made to support the human form.
The Flag Halyard Chair acknowledges the early modernists such as Le Corbusier, Mies Van Der Rohe, and Marcel Breuer, but also establishes Hans Wegner as a master in furniture design.
Wegner recognized he had a natural knack and love for wood working when he started out as an apprentice for a cabinetmaker in Southern Denmark as a child.
He developed a flair that set him apart from furniture readily available at the time.
Hans stripped the furniture designs down to their pure construction and proved that beauty could show through at its barest form.
He is characterized by traditional joinery techniques and sculpted elements.
He would mix materials such as wood, plywood, metal, and upholstery.
A beautiful example of his ability to mix elements is the Flag Halyard Chair which blends a stainless steel frame, 240 metres of flag line, a sheep skin throw, and a full down feather headrest upholstered in leather.
Originally designed in 1950, Hans Wegner dreamed up this luxurious chair after a day at the beach.
He sculpted the form in the sand and the result was an inspiring design.
Wegner himself said "A chair is to have no backside.
It should be beautiful from all sides and angles.
" This chair is a perfect example of his vision.
The chair is wonderfully playful in a serious way! It has the adaptability of seeming both like a futuristic piece in a modern loft or a mod addition in a traditional room.
Regardless of your space, there is always a suitable cozy spot for this classic chair.
It stands alone as a unique concept and is extremely comfortable and loungey perfection to boot.
Our chair is yours to customize and enjoy.
The design of the chair would seem fully industrial, but with a lush sheep skin throw, it just beckons you to come lie down.
The true beauty of this design extends beyond the timeless aesthetics.
You feel weightless when completely reclined; consider this your new Cloud 9.
