    Applying Compound

    • 1). Wash your car with an auto detergent. Be sure to remove all dirt from the surface because excess dirt gets caught under the polisher's disc and creates more scratches in the paint.

    • 2). Apply the compound to the scratch. Put a generous amount directly to the scratched area.

    • 3). Prepare the disc for compounding. Use a wool disc and spray it with water before beginning the compounding process.

    • 4). Spread the compound. Do this before turning the machine on so you can ensure a smooth, even coat over the scratched area.

    • 5). Apply the compound. Turn the machine on and move it over the scratched area in a figure-eight movement. Run the disc over the area until the compound starts to dry.

    • 6). Remove the compound. Mix a solution of equal parts rubbing alcohol and water in a spray bottle. Spray the mixture onto the compounded area and wipe with a microfiber cloth. Inspect the area to see if the scratch is gone. If not, repeat the compounding process until you get the desired result.

    Polishing and Waxing

    • 1). Attach a white foam polishing pad to the polisher. Spray the foam pad with water.

    • 2). Apply a non-abrasive car polish to the compounded area. This will help to even out the work you have done and restore the paint's shine.

    • 3). Polish the scratched area. Continue to use a figure-eight motion while polishing the area, then wipe the polish off with a microfiber cloth.

    • 4). Wax the area. This helps to seal and protect the paint after the repair. You can do this step by hand, or by attaching a waxing pad to your polisher.
