How to Raise Freshwater Shrimp in Indoor Pools

    Hatching

    • 1). Fill a bucket to the rim with water.

    • 2). Add salt to the water until it begins to crystallize on the bottom. This will have the approximate salinity of sea water.

    • 3). Add shrimp eggs to the water. These will hatch in approximately one week.

    Transferring to a Pond

    • 1). Catch the newly hatched shrimp underwater in a large plastic bag. Do not dump out the water.

    • 2). Knot the top of the bag.

    • 3). Place the bag inside the pond water and let it sit for 10 minutes. This allows the temperature of the water to equalize inside and outside the bag.

    • 4). Cut open the bag and release the shrimp.

    Raising the Shrimp

    • 1). Feed the shrimp daily. Specialized shrimp feed can be bought, but fish food can be used as well.

    • 2). Measure the pH of the pond water daily.

    • 3). Add baking soda to the pond according to directions on its box if the alkalinity rises above 9.5. The alkalinity will stay stable in most cases and baking soda will not be needed.
