Major AMC Appraisal Management Companies Own Most of the Market

There are a few AMC appraisal management companies that own about 80% of the appraisal market.
The remaining 20% is run by about 250 smaller companies.
This leaves the appraiser in the troublesome position of trying to gain some of the work from these major companies.
Most appraisers are looking to join the biggest appraisal management companies to try to gain more work for their floundering businesses.
It is common to find threads on the internet from appraisers asking which ones are the biggest companies.
But is this the best option for these appraisers? Should they try to swim in the big pond or look elsewhere for more work? While 20% does not sound like very much, it amounts to thousands of appraisals every month that do not have the same competition as the larger lending institutions and banks.
It does take more work and lots of time to sign up with each company, but it can be well worth the effort when you find yourself receiving work right away.
New management companies are starting daily to try to cash in on the expanding business and make a name for themselves.
As they attain lenders, they need the appraisal workforce to handle the load.
This is where many appraisers can step in on the ground floor and start receiving work.
Does this mean that you should stay away from the giant companies in the appraisal market? Absolutely not! The rotation of appraisers in these companies may be huge, but any work you can bring in is a benefit to any appraiser at this point in the market.
