You know it when you smell it.
It is just a fact that you can't ignore.
Cat urine smells.
Whether it is in the litter box (where you hope it is) or elsewhere in the house the first thing you always want to do is get rid of that very strong, very potent odor.
It can permeate the entire house and take it over with the pungent aroma.
Cat lovers may love their pets but no one likes the smell of their urine.
Simply put, it is just not attractive and can make the whole house stink.
No one wants that so what do you do about it? Well first of all keep the litter box clean or you are asking for trouble.
Secondly make sure you don't stress your cat out because the more stressed your cat is the more likely it is that they will urinate elsewhere.
And lastly introduce new pets gently so your cat doesn't feel threatened and then goes around spraying the walls and furniture of the house.
There is nothing worse than a cat that feels the need to spray everything in the house just to prove that the cat is the king of the house.
However if the accident has happened and you need to clean up that cat urine smell there are a few remedies that might solve the problem.
First of all you always want to check the ingredients if you are buying sprays over the counter.
Make sure they are made specifically for cat urine and not just animal urine.
Cat urine is potent.
It is protein rich and this protein tends to make it more difficult to clean and get out of the air.
You also want to avoid if you can cleansers with bleach in them.
Cat urine is filled with ammonia, ammonia and bleach does not mix well.
If you are going to use bleach you need to get the area as dry as possible before you add bleach to the area.
You also want to avoid cleansers with ammonia in them; the cat will be attracted to this since their own urine has an ammonia smell already.
Many cat owners prefer home solutions.
These home solutions are very successful at times but at other times they are not.
The extreme potency of cat urine will often lend itself to the need for something a bit stronger than what you can use from your home pantry.
In those cases make sure that you are using a product that is made specifically for the car urine issue.
Not all domestic pets have the same urine potency so do not use a general cleaner for this problem.
Cat urine smells are some of the hardest to get out of fabrics and flooring.
Stay on top of them by addressing them sooner, rather than later.
The longer the urine gets to set and dry the harder it will be to remove it from the area.
