What to Do After the Kids Are Gone
What to do now? The children are grown.
They've started their own lives and mom and dad are left wondering what do we do now.
For all these years the children are the focus of our lives and now it's just the two of us.
This is not just for parents whose children are already gone.
It's also for parents still raising their children.
Sometimes we focus so much on our children that we can, if we're not careful grow apart.
The thing is we sometimes don't realize this.
The only thing that we end up having a common ground on is our children.
Our lives revolve around our children or child and they should, but we should also not forget the person that we fell in love with.
My husband and I have been married 28 years.
We raised our daughter, sent her off to college and she is now a teacher and has her own life.
Our daughter has just recently married so now we get to look forward to grandchildren.
So what did we decide to do after she left home? Well, we decided to sell the house we were living in, find a few acres and get horses.
Now granted that's not for everyone, but my husband had grown up around horses and I was willing to learn about them.
We now volunteer our time and horses for church events and birthday parties.
We have a wonderful time with it and I have learned to ride at an old age.
We go horseback riding when we can, but it's not as often as we would like.
The main thing is to find something that you both enjoy.
My husband also has learned the computer, so we each have our own.
We have Facebook accounts and have a lot of fun.
I also opened up an online store.
Now that is another article.
I have seen so many couples after the children are gone they have nothing left for each other and it's very sad.
They usually get divorced after all those years and it just seems like such a waste.
If they can find just one thing that they can enjoy it might save their marriage.
