Things to do in Bali
What is not to like about a vacation in Bali? There's natural beauty, the culture and heritage, great food and adventure. It is the best of all that I seek in a holiday location, so when we planned to take off on a holiday recently, there was no doubt in our minds about where we had to go. Bali, indeed! There are hundreds of things to do here, but here's a list that might come in handy if you are visiting Bali for the first time.
You have to go surfing once you get there. I didn't know how to, but I could learn surfing at Kuta. You could do so at Canggu, Sanur or Legian. Bali is home to some of the best surf spots so don't skip this experience!
Kuta De Ta, yes, that's where everyone who visits Bali heads out to. It is a trendy bar from where you can look out into the waters, as you enjoy their pizzas, sushis or have some awesome sundowners.
Experience the night life because a trip to Bali is incomplete without exploring the bars in Kuta, where there are plenty of options to let your hair down and have a good time.
Bali is known for its amazing temples, but how about the monkey temple in Uluwatu? This temple is home to monkeys and you can watch their antics all day – that is of course – if your hat is not stolen by one of them. A monkey lunged at a travel guide I was holding and made away with it.
Don't miss out on the spa experience in Bali. Choose from the several spa hotels in Bali to have a relaxing time as the Balinese massagers remove all the knots of stress and tension away! The popular spa options at most resorts in Bali include mandi rempah and a mandi susuh, the spice bath and milk bath respectively.
Feeling rejuvenated after a spa treatment? Then, it is time to take a walking tour or a bike trip through the paddy fields of Bali. Another option is to climb the volcanic mountain called Mount Batur. You can start early in the morning, around 3.30 am and catch the sunrise. In terms of outdoor activities, there's no place like Bali to explore snorkelling or river rafting. You can stay at Menjangan Island for a couple of nights to explore the reefs and snorkel.
Experiencing the street food must be high on the agenda of anyone who comes to Bali. The beaches are where you can gorge on fresh prawns, fish or squid. There are other street stalls where you can enjoy the bakso soup (meatball soup) or the nasi goreng or fried rice. If you are a pork eater, then you should try the legendary babi guling, pig roasted and lined with spices. It is served with an assortment of vegetables and rice. If you are a vegetarian, fret not, there are many restaurants that serve smoothies, salads, vegan pizzas and rice.
Accommodation is hardly an issue and you can find hotels in Bali that suit your budget. From cheap accommodation to luxury hotels and resorts, Bali has them all. And if you are looking for a beachside paradise built true to the Balinese style, look no further than The Oberoi, Bali. So go right ahead, plan a trip to this tropical haven, and and come away with your own personal Bali experience!
