Some Basic Regulations in Ireland

Before you come to Ireland, it is advisable to first apprise yourself of the various regulations in place in the country.
Although you may not be a citizen, while you are in Ireland it is nevertheless important to conduct yourself according to the Irish laws, or, depending on the offence you commit, you may well be subject to fine, arrest, imprisonment or even deportation.
Even if the offence is not that serious, it's important to remember that when you are in Ireland you are very much a guest, and to abide by the regulations of the country is only good manners.
Perhaps one of the most important differences between Ireland and your own country will be the legal drinking age.
In Ireland, the legal age for persons to consume alcohol is eighteen, and pubs are very strict about enforcing this.
You must be certain to have a piece of identification on you when you go out to drink; people under eighteen are not allowed to remain on licensed premises during the extended hours.
If you are planning a driving holiday in Ireland, you will also need to become familiar with the rules of the road.
In Ireland, just as in the UK, motorists drive on the left hand side of the road; if you have never done this before it may take a little getting used to, but you will soon adapt to it.
In Ireland you are allowed to have no more than 0.
8 mg of alcohol in your bloodstream when driving.
It is also illegal to drive while talking on a mobile (cellular) phone or any other radio device, such as a CB; even hands-free systems are illegal in Ireland.
Only passengers are permitted to use a phone while the car is in motion.
You may also have the phone switched on in the glove box and park in order to answer it.
As you can see, all of these rules are intended to promote the safety of Irish residents and visitors to the country; it would be at best impolite and at worst very dangerous to disregard them.
