Why You Have Trouble Reading Past the Age of 50

Have you ever noticed why the majority of older people i.
e over the age of 50-60 wear glasses? Now I know some of them may have always worn spectacles all their lives if they were myopic or short sighted.
I'm talking about those who need reading glasses.
What tends to typically happen is that in their mid to late 40s they start noticing they have to push print further away from themselves to see the print.
Sometimes they may need extra light or move the print towards the window to let natural daylight shine on the page.
The reason for this is a phenomenon called Presbyopia.
Presbyopia affects the eye muscles ability to resolve small detail in particular when changing focus from distance to near.
A lot people in their 40s would complain as an example of watching television and then switching their focus to something close up for example the TV guide and there is a delay before their eyes can focus on the print.
This is all due to the weakening of the eye muscles of which the only remedy is reading glasses.
Now reading glasses are basically a pair of magnifiers, all they do is make the bring larger that's all but this is what older presbyopic people require to able to read close up.
Conversely some short sighted people do not need reading glasses when they 50 instead they have to take their glasses off to read so don't be surprised if you come across this scenario!
