    • 1). Hang your pots and pans. Pots and pans take up a lot of cabinet and drawer space; if you invest in a pot rack or hook system to hang your pots and pans, it will free up a significant amount of extra space. You can find a wide variety of pot racks ranging from heavy duty racks that require ceiling installation to wall racks that work like shelves, holding your pots on hooks. If you have stainless steel or copper cookware, pot racks are a great way to show them off while saving space.

    • 2). Use creative storage solutions if you lack drawers. Try storing silverware in interesting containers on your counter to free up drawer space for items such as tinfoil and sandwich bags. Look for an interesting short vase, a funky wooden container or any open container that goes with your kitchen decor. You can also store cooking utensils such as spatulas or ladles in unique containers to save drawer space. Removing these items from your drawers will help you keep less attractive kitchen items hidden.

    • 3). Install shelves for large items. If you have available wall space, install open-style shelving to create a pantry area or to store your dishes. Unused wall space in your kitchen is a waste and should be put to good use. You can also install hanging wall racks or rods for items such as cooking utensils or dish towels. If you have high ceilings in your kitchen, install shelves along the top of your walls. You can store items that you use less often, such as cleaning products or large cookware, and get them out of your way.

    • 4). Take food out of packages and use storage containers. Food packaging such as cereal and pasta boxes take up a lot of valuable kitchen space. Invest in plastic or metal food containers to store your non-refrigerated items; taking your food out of its bulky packaging will free up loads of shelf space.

    • 5). Get a wall-mounting spice rack. Anyone who loves to cook knows how much those tiny little bottles of flavorful spices can clutter up even the most organized cabinets in no time. Store all of your spices in a wall-mounting spice rack to keep them handy for cooking and to save space.
