How Do I Redirect a Link Home Button in WordPress?
- 1). Access your WordPress administration page and click on "Settings" and "Reading." If your options are set to use a static page, the "Home" link in your navigation bar is pointing to a specific page set up as "Home." If the option is set to "Your latest posts," the theme is generating a "Home" link automatically that can either be removed using the theme editor, or changed in the WordPress menu manager.
- 2). Expand "Appearance" and click "Menus" in the administration menu. Check for a "Home" link on the menu selected as your primary menu. If one exists, click it once to expand the link options. Type the desired URL you wish the "Home" link to point to in the URL field. If there is no URL field, this link is pointing to a page. If the "Home" link was not present, or your theme does not use WordPress 3.0 menus, you will need to edit your theme. Click "Save Menu" when finished.
- 3). Click on "Plugins" and "Add New." Type "Page Links To" into the search field and click the "Search Plugins" button. Click the "Install Now" link under the "Page Links To" plug-in heading and click "Yes" to confirm the installation. Click "Activate Plugin" once the installation completes.
- 4). Click on "Pages" in your administration menu. Find the "Home" page and click the "Edit" link under the page title. If you do not have a "Home" page, your "Home" link is controlled by another method such as your theme or WordPress menu.
- 5). Scroll to the bottom of the page editor and enter the URL you wish the "Home" link to point to under the "Page Links To" heading. Select the check box for "Open this link in a new window" if desired and click "Publish" to save your changes. For this change to affect your "Home" link in the navigation menus, you must use the WordPress menus and have the "Home" page added to it.
- 6). Click on "Settings" and "General" in the WordPress administration menu. Change the "Site address (URL)" to your desired address to redirect all generated "Home" links to a different URL than your main WordPress root.
