Heliopolis is an ancient site, as well as a modern neighborhood located in the eastern reaches of greater Cairo between the city and its airport. The area was named by the Greeks, and is today considered to have been one of the three most significant cities in ancient Egypt. Travelers to Heliopolis find a wealth of ancient artifacts and sites, as well as the massive Citystars development, which provides modern shopping, dining, accommodations and entertainment. - The large and luxurious Fairmont Heliopolis is set near Cairo's diplomatic quarter in the heart of Heliopolis. Given the large choice of activities and its extensive grounds, the hotel is more of an urban resort destination than a city hotel. Its desert oasis design offers many recreational options including three swimming pools, a kiddie pool, a playground, three clay tennis courts, air-conditioned squash courts, a large fitness center, whirlpools, saunas and a beach volleyball court. Dining options are extensive with 10 on-site restaurants ranging from Italian to Japanese, and a collection of snack bars and lounges. One of the most interesting venues is the open-air Egyptian Night Restaurant where you can enjoy a meal under the stars in a desert setting. Each of the property's 835 guestrooms and suites features a walk-in shower, media panel with 42-inch monitor and high-speed Internet connection, a minibar and modern stylistic furnishings -- there are no hints of the ancient heritage of Heliopolis at the Fairmont Hotel.
- Part of the massive CITYSTARS shopping, entertainment and accommodation complex, the Staybridge Suites Cairo-Citystars is an ultra-modern, high-rise version of an apart-hotel chain property. This all-suites hotel is designed with bright marble floors, dark wood furnishings and an ambiance usually found in top-flight hotels. The Staybridge Suites has amenities that make it a favorite of the American traveler including free Wi-Fi access throughout the hotel, a 24-hour mini-mart in the lobby, a fitness center, guest laundry, coffee, tea and snacks served in the lobby lounge. Each guestroom provides a large work area, Wi-Fi, a fully equipped kitchen and ultra modern furnishings. Studios, one-bedrooms, two-bedrooms, three-bedrooms and penthouses are available for any size party.
- The Le Meridien Heliopolis blends elements of the city's ancient history into its design, and serves as something of a gathering point in the neighborhood with its large conference spaces. At the on-site Barracuda discotheque and the Marco Polo, one of the city's more popular restaurants, you will see a mix of locals and travelers. For recreation, the hotel features a heated outdoor pool, tennis courts, whirlpool and fitness center. Guests enjoy 24-hour concierge service and wireless Internet throughout. The 283 standard guestrooms provide satellite TV, wireless Internet, minibar and optional butler service.
