Skin Health Foundations - Understanding Your Skin Type
Understanding your type will allow you to better take care of your skin so that it looks its best.
There are five skin types.
Normal skin is balanced, containing the right amount of moisture to show a healthy fullness while also tending not to wrinkle.
People with normal type have a normal texture and small or medium sized pores.
This type does not require a lot of special treatment to look its best.
The next type is oily skin.
People with this type generally have thicker skin, which has the advantage of not wrinkling as much with age.
Their skin rarely dries out and their face can often appear shiny with open pores.
Because of the increased amount of oil, breakouts can occur more often.
People with thinner skin have what's called a sensitive type.
This skin is the most prone to developing fine lines and wrinkles with age.
Redness can occur because of cold, heat, or other conditions.
People with sensitive skin need to ensure they find products that work well with them.
Oil-dry (allapoid) skin is a challenge for people.
The skin doesn't produce as much oil as the other types, so dryness and flaking can occur, with an uneven patchy look.
Individuals with this type need to be diligent in their daily routines to keep their skin looking its best.
Acne-type can be the most challenging.
People with this type don't necessarily have had to ever experience acne.
Rather, it is a skin type that is more prone to breakouts and other disruptions.
This skin type requires more frequent exfoliation than the others, because the skin doesn't do it well on its own.
Understanding your skin type is the first step to a proper skin care routine.
