Jar Opener Instructions
- Manual jar openers do not take up any counter space and fit in any kitchen drawer. Most work easily with no damage to one's wrist and they cost quite a bit less than electric jar openers. Manual jar openers work on the principle of releasing the vacuum seal of the jar so that the lid can pop right off. Some do this by gripping the jar. There are three basic kinds of manual jar openers: one with a handle that has a pie shaped wedge on the end of it, another with a handle and a round open end and the third is a rubber piece of material with grooves on one side to grip the jar.
Use your manual jar opener that has the pie shaped wedge by slipping it onto the jar top; then twist, and the jar lid will come right off. The next kind is similar to a bottle cap opener. Hold the jar opener by the handle and fit the open end around the jar lid. Pull back on the jar opener and you will hear a popping sound. Now easily twist off the jar lid. The third kind is a rubber piece of material with grooves on one side. Place this on the jar lid, groove side down, and open the jar by hand with the jar opener in place. The jar lid will twist off easily. - Electric jar openers sit on the countertop so they do take up some space although there are small and large varieties. Some of them open cans and bottles; some just open jars. The electric jar openers with just this one function are less expensive and take up less counter room. All varieties work the same way.
Place the jar you want to open in the jar opener and press the button. The machine unscrews the lid. When purchasing an electric jar opener look at the features and find out the size jars it will open. Make sure the machine will work on the size jars you will open most frequently.
