    Wild Animals

    • To add Adirondack north woods flavor to your home, consider displaying mounted game, such as deer or moose heads, or the animal's antlers. Real or artificial bearskin rugs or furniture throws add to the atmosphere, as does art or accent pieces featuring Adirondack wildlife themes. Consider wild animal print curtains, tablecloths, pillows, bedspreads, upholstery or other fabric items to contribute to the Adirondack look.

    Fireplaces

    • The classic Adirondack lodges include huge fireplaces with roaring fires to keep out winter chill or the damp of other seasons. Your Adirondack-style decor should include a fireplace, preferably of natural stone rather than brick. Consider metal or wood accent pieces created by Adirondack craftspeople to decorate the mantel, complemented with an Adirondacks-themed decorative fireplace screen. Above the fireplace is also an ideal place to hang the moose or deer-head or antlers -- the larger the better.

    Wood

    • You can't escape the north woods of the Adirondacks outside or inside. Adirondack interior walls feature logs or bark, not paint or wallpaper. The dominant furniture style is handcrafted log, whether in the living room, bedroom, dining room or kitchen. Pine is a frequently used wood, especially in chests of drawers, nightstands, bookcases, armoires, and tables and chairs. This furniture come in smaller sizes for children's rooms, and it's tough enough to stand up to hard use and remain attractive.

    Adirondack Chairs

    • More than any other type of north woods furnishing, the Adirondack chair has gained popularity throughout the country for outdoor use. The classic 19th century wood design includes slats and the fan back, treated to resist the worst Mother Nature can dish out in rain and snow. Originally made in teak, modern chairs come in a variety of woods and sizes. Modern Adirondack chairs also come in reclining and chaise models. These chairs are equally at home in the backyard, around the pool or on the porch.
