How to Make a Homemade Raccoon Box Trap
- 1). Place a large box near the edge of a table. Next, fill the box one-third full with water. The box must have exterior handles and a lid.
- 2). Rest a piece of cardboard on the table and let part of the cardboard hang over the edge. This means part of the cardboard should have directly over the box.
- 3). Place a piece of bait - any food works as raccoons are scavengers - on the part of the cardboard overhanging the table, and the trap is now set. The raccoon will walk over to the bait and fall into the water-filled box when stepping on the unsupported section of cardboard. The water weighs the raccoon's fur down, preventing escape.
- 4). Inspect the trap in the morning and look for any trapped raccoons. If you find any, place the lid on the box and take the raccoon to a far away yet safe location. This ensures you treat the raccoon humanely and that the raccoon does not come back on your property.
