Rare Cadillacs of the 1970s

      Cadillacs are a favorite with collectors because they stand out from the crowd for their rareness. Compared with other car models, a Cadillac will ultimately stand out because, as noted by car collector Matt Garret, newer models of other cars will almost always be improvements on the preceding model, while for a Cadillac, what is made in one year will hardly ever be improved on. Moreover, production figures are kept low so that only a handful of people lay their hands on the rare models.

    The 1972 Cadillac El Dorado

    • In 1972, the El Dorado hit the market and it has remained on of the most rare Cadillacs. That year, Cadillac was celebrating its 70th anniversary and one of the El Dorados manufactured was sent to the USSR as a gift from president Nixon to the Soviet leader, Leonid Brezhnev. Compared to preceding Cadillacs, the El Dorado incorporated various safety features, including the re-location of the parking lights from the bumper, and the introduction of power steering. These changes were also made in the Cadillac Calais and the Coupe De Ville.

    The 1973 De Ville

    • While Cadillac achieved the milestone of 5 million cars in 1973, it also introduced the Cadillac De Ville that year, and it has since remained one of the most rare Cadillacs. There were two options available: a four-door sedan and a two-door coupe. To add to the De Ville's uniqueness, the rear roof pillars came with De Ville signature plates.

      An equally rare Cadillac from 1973 was the Fleetwood Sixty Special Brougham sedan. It had most of the features of the De Ville, but also came fitted with four doors and the roofing style was rounded.

    The 1978 Cadillac Seville Coupe

    • The year 1978 marked a great milestone for Cadillac, as it was in this model year that the first computerized car was introduced. The Seville Opera Coupe of 1978 came with an engraved chrome insignia on the rear lamps and also had a new bumper guard. The Seville Coupe also appeared to be wider than it actually was, courtesy of its painted accent stripe.
