    • The Camaro was introduced by the Chevrolet Motor Company in 1967. By the 2000 model year, the Camaro was in its fourth generation, which debuted in 1993 and was less popular than the late-1960's muscle car. The 2000 model incorporated a few minor updates from a 1998 overhaul but still offered a host of features and options to buyers.

    Models

    • The two Camaros produced in the 2000 model year were a two-door coupe and the sportier Z28. In addition, Chevrolet offered a convertible version for each style.

    Engine and Transmission

    • In the coupe, the standard engine is a 3.8-liter V-6 that produces 200 horsepower at 5,200 rpm. The Z28's standard engine is the larger 5.7-liter V-8, producing 305 horsepower at 5,200 rpm. A stronger, 5.7-liter V-8 producing 320 horsepower at 5,200 rpm was optional.

The coupe is equipped with a five-speed manual overdrive transmission. Buyers could opt for a four-speed automatic overdrive. This automatic is the standard transmission in the Z28, although buyers could opt for a six-speed manual overdrive.

    Interior Features

    • The 2000 model was the first Camaro to feature controls for the sound system on the steering wheel; in addition, the basic AM/FM radio and cassette player could be upgraded to include an optional 12-disc CD changer. The steering wheel provides cruise control features, and the wheel's tilt angle is adjustable by the driver. Other interior features include a center console and cloth seats, with an optional upgrade to leather in both models, including leather trim on the steering wheel and gear shift knob. Power windows, door locks and seats are standard in the convertibles. All models are equipped with air conditioning.

    Exterior Features

    • The 2000 Camaro saw several new features added to the exterior, including power side-view mirrors, which matched the body color. Alloy wheels were optional on the coupe but standard on the Z28. Both models have standard rear spoilers. Air dams and glass T-tops were options for both the coupe and the Z28. Buyers could select from among nine exterior colors, some with metallic finish, and three interior colors.

    Safety Features

    • Basic safety equipment of the 2000 Camaro includes front airbags and a four-wheel anti-lock brake system. Daytime running lights and automatic on/off headlights are also standard safety features. Buyers could upgrade to a keyless, lighted entry system and anti-theft system.
