Brazilian Real
The Brazilian real was introduced as the country’s official currency in 1994 as a part of the Plano Real monetary reform. The Brazilian real can be designated as either R$ or BRL and is a comma separated currency (e.g. R$ 100,31). Each Brazilian real can be divided into 100 centavos. As of 2011, the Brazilian real traded with an exchange rate of roughly 1.7 reals to one U.S. dollar.
