For those who have limited mobility, lift chairs are a great way to get that little bit of extra assistance getting in and out of chairs.
The idea is a simple concept; if somebody has difficulty getting their body up and down; into and out of a chair then take the chair to them.
Lift chairs have a built in motor that raises the entire chair to an almost vertical position.
This allows the user to stand and lean against the seat cushion and they are lowered along with the chair into a sitting position.
When they wish to stand up, the process is reversed and the motor smoothly elevates the chair into a standing position until the user's weight is entirely on their feet.
These chairs can be vitality important to anyone who has trouble sitting down and getting up without assistance.
Even if they do not live alone there will no doubt be occasions when there is no one else available to help, and they may otherwise be stranded.
Lift chairs can be used by anyone but are most common for those with mobility restricting diseases such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (or ALS, commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease) or arthritis.
Those who suffer from obesity and women going through pregnancy will also find that lift chairs make standing up and sitting down that much easier.
Choosing the right lift chair is personal, and should match with the décor of the house, but with the number of options available there will be the perfect blend of design and functionality available to all.

They can recline from a 45 degree angle to straight up and stop at any point in-between.
Three position recliners are able to recline to an almost flat position, but the chair back and leg rests do not have separate motors, so the user is not able to lay flat.
Infinite position chairs, sometimes referred to as four position, have dual motors for the back and leg rest allowing users to lie almost completely flat.
Other features that need to be taken into consideration are seat depth and width to ensure comfort, as well as the different body shapes for which they are designed.
Commonly, lift chairs are designed for those between 5' 4" and 6' and anywhere up to 375 lbs.
However, for those larger they are available up to 6' 8" and 700 lbs.
Additional extras that may be of interest include, but are not limited to, head pillows, memory foam, heating, massage features and left handed controls.
So that users do not have to stand up and sit down as regularly, these chairs commonly include extra pockets, under arm compartments and side trays, which are worth looking into.
All of these factors are important to take into consideration when deciding between available styles of lift chairs.
So that you can find the right design for yourself or your loved one, ensure that you have thought about every possible scenario so that all needs are met.
