The Washoe County Sheriff's Office, in conjunction with the Nevada Highway Patrol, and the Reno and Sparks Police Departments, will be placing additional personnel on saturation patrol from Monday, December 17, 2012 through Wednesday, January 2, 2013. The goal of this campaign is to help make the holiday season safer for all motorists on Nevada's roads and highways by intercepting as many drivers under the influence (alcohol and drugs) as possible.

The "Joining Forces" DUI Enforcement Campaign is made possible by grant funding received from the Nevada Department of Public Safety/Office of Traffic Safety and the "Joining Forces" Program. The effort is a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement program that promotes statewide enforcement in the areas of DUI, seat belt, distracted driving, speed and pedestrian safety. The purpose of the DUI Saturation Enforcement campaign is to educate the driving public in regards to DUI laws, to enforce the community's no tolerance stance towards impaired driving and to remind people that it's never safe to drive impaired.

Law enforcement everywhere urges you to use good judgment, select a designated driver, or seek out other alternate means of transportation. A sober driver does not mean a person who consumed the least amount of alcohol - it is the person who has decided to consume no alcohol at all. This is especially relevant as we gear up for big New Year's Eve celebrations in Reno / Sparks and up at Lake Tahoe.
