How to Paint & File Cedar Siding
- 1). Clean the surface of the cedar siding with a pressure washer. Allow the surface to dry completely.
- 2). File down the edges of the cedar siding, using 80- to 120-grit sandpaper. Do not use a metal file, as this may damage the surface. File in one vertical motion and never side to side.
- 3). Cover areas you want protected from paint with blue painter's tape. Protect larger areas with heavy-duty drop cloths.
- 4). Fasten the nap cover to the frame. Pour primer into the five-gallon bucket. Fill it just about halfway.
- 5). Apply primer to the cedar siding, using the roller. Roll vertically, moving from left to right. Allow the surface to dry for at least two full hours.
- 6). Apply paint to the cedar siding in the same manner as you did the primer.
