Do Steam Cleaners really Clean your Carpet?
When thinking about cleaning your carpet, it is easy to go for a conventional hoover, but have you covered all of the possible options? One alternative is a steam carpet cleaner, which uses the heat and water contained in the steam to clean the dirt away from any surface it is used on.

Are steam cleaners usable in the home?

Well the answer is yes, but often it is best to hire a steam cleaner to avoid paying for the whole unit. A top of the range carpet cleaner, which can often be in the hundreds of pounds, may be too large of an investment for many.

How do I choose a carpet cleaner?

Many steam cleaners work in the same way, ie: they produce steam through a head nozzle and suction is used to suck the water back into the machine for emptying at a later date. What differentiates the cleaners is the pressure of the steam and the suction strength of the machine. A lesser quality machine will be less efficient at removing dirt and grime from the carpet. Therefore you will have to balance price, and machine quality in order to get a good deal on your carpet clean.

What surfaces can I use a carpet cleaner on?

Carpet cleaners work best on non-porous materials such as tiling, but can still be used on porous surfaces such as carpet and rugs. Tiles and vinyl flooring won't absorb the steam but still can be cleaned effectively. This is not to say however, that steam cleaners cannot be used on carpets and cloth, you will infact find they clean very well however deep ingrained dirt is very difficult to reach with a conventional steam cleaner - they are best used for freshening up a carpet and giving it a nice new look.

Also remember that the high heat of steam cleaning can kill embedded dust mites within a carpet, so is a great idea for asthma sufferers.
