There is various pest management methods employed for terminating these creepy bugs and the right one must be chosen depending on the type of cockroach present in your home. One of the simplest ways to control these bugs is to cut off their accessibility to water and food. Make sure that you store all foodstuffs in air tight containers; it is also important to make sure that there are no tidbits, food scraps or crumbs lying around the house on table tops, floors etc. The idea is to keep all the nooks and corners of your home clean and sealed so that these bugs cannot find place to hide.

Cockroaches cannot survive without water and hence make sure that there are no damp and dark corners in your home especially in bathrooms, beneath the kitchen sink etc. Ensure that all the taps are in working condition without any leakage whatsoever. One of the most popular and commonly employed professional pest management methods for cockroaches is the use of fumigation sprays. But the disadvantage is that these contain certain synthetic peptides which are quite harmful for both human beings as well as the environment. These sprays also have a very strong odor and hence your home cannot be used for several hours or even upto a day after using these sprays. The other disadvantage is that these bugs also become immune to these sprays after continuous usage.

Another pest control method for these creepy creatures is the use of baits which is incorporated with an insect growth regulator or IGR. This prevents the growth of these bugs thereby helping in eradicating them. This is an excellent method as it not toxic to human beings and does not damage the environment in any manner. But the downside is that the method is quite expensive.

A very effective and affordable method to eliminate cockroaches is the use of boric acid. The advantage of using this acid is that is harmless to both humans and domestic pets and can be purchased easily from any chemist or grocery stores. Boric acid is a poison for cockroaches and hence ingestion of the same can help in killing these bugs. But the method is slow and it may take up to several weeks to show results. Moreover, this method is highly effective during summer months but during the rainy season, this becomes quite ineffective due to the excessive moisture in the air. Soapy water is also a good way to kill these creatures but is only effective when the numbers are less.

There are natural methods too for killing these creatures and that is to use other insects or animals who will feed on cockroaches. One such animal is the household lizard which is an effective pest management method if you have a very low incidence of cockroaches in your house. But this method is definitely not effective if you have a major pest problem or your home is plagued by the large cockroach variety. The lizards either find a way into your home from the wild or you can get these at pet shops.
