Tips on Using Spray Glaze Finish

    • Spray glaze finish is an easy way to add details to furniture, accessories and woodwork. You can give your home a variety of styles depending on the glaze color you choose and how and where you apply it. However, though this product is convenient and simple to use, there are a few things that you should keep in mind before you take the plunge and begin spraying away at everything within reach that will make the process a joy and not a headache down the road.

    Use Protection

    • If you are spraying the glaze indoors, cover all of the surfaces that you want to protect with tarps. You can use masking tape or painter's tape to hang tarps on vertical surfaces. Change into old clothing or cover your good clothes with a smock. Wear gloves and safety goggles to prevent harm from back spray. You may also wish to cover your hair with a plastic cap.

    Sealer

    • Apply a vinyl sealer to the item you want to glaze before spraying the finish. This will make it easier to wipe away excess glaze or mistakes before they dry.

    Highlight

    • A light hand is better and more realistic when it comes to using spray glaze. Use it to highlight the recesses and/or corners of your piece to add depth and age.

    Portion Control

    • Try not to use too much glaze, since it can harm the finish or your piece or cause your final product to crack and peel once it is sealed. It is much easier to come back and add more glaze than to remove glaze that is bubbling or dripping.
