Many jobs involve a slight risk of injury these days, some more so than others. Factory and industrial style jobs are at fairly high risk due to the mechanical machinery being used while other lighter jobs such as retail work are at less risk. There are many people out there who will have an accident at work and not do anything about it, yet it is vital that the correct procedure is carried out as you may be entitled to compensation. This article will give you a guideline on what you should do if you have an accident at work.

Let your employer know

If you have an accident at work the first thing you should do is let someone know. If you have some colleagues working around you, let them know that you have just had an accident so that they can do whatever is necessary to make sure you get the help you need. Most minor injuries at work do not need urgent professional healthcare, but in the case of a broken limb, concussion and fractured bones, you should call an ambulance, even if you feel well. No matter how small or big the injury is your employer will need to keep a record of it at your place of work.

Supporting evidence

Most injuries will not require any form of legal action as they are too small to bother with, but if you feel that the injury could have been avoided, or has potentially caused you undue harm then you will need to provide supporting evidence to lawyers. If you are not able to do so, get a co-worker to take photographs of the accident scene, with all of the items that were involved noted down on a supporting document.  Most employees will carry mobile phones around at their workplace so it will be easy for someone to take supporting photographs and send them over to you. If you have extensive injuries, you will need to get someone to take a photograph of these injuries in order to back up your compensation claim. This evidence is imperative for establishing what exactly happened during the accident, making it more likely that you can claim on an accident at work. Remember, without any evidence there is no proof.

Healthcare

No matter what the extent of the injury is, in order to claim compensation you will need to have the accident listed against your name on medical documentation. You will need to seek medical advice as soon as the accident happens in order to strengthen your claim, but if your injury is not urgent, make sure you see a medical practitioner as soon as you can.

Know your rights

Most workplace injuries require the help of experts and legal aids. Make sure that you contact a qualified lawyer as quickly as you can in order to discuss what you can do to claim compensation for your accident.

Once you have contacted the relevant lawyers, sit back and let their expertise get you the compensation you deserve.
