How to Clean Blue Bird Houses
- 1). Detach the bird box from its mount so that you can access it from all angles. If the bird box will not detach from the mounts continue on to the next step.
- 2). Put rubber gloves on before touching the blue bird house. This will prevent any contact with bird pathogens that can cause illness.
- 3). Remove as much of the accumulated debris and trash as you can with your hands. Throw all of the debris into a trash bag to avoid drawing the attention of predators. Scrape the walls of the box with a plastic scraper to remove as much of the residue as possible.
- 4). Prepare the cleaning solution. Mix nine parts water with one part bleach in a bucket.
- 5). Wet the scrub brush with the bleach and water solution and begin to scrub the walls of the box in a circular motion. When the box is completely clean, rinse off the bleach and water solution with clean water. Allow the bird box to dry and then mount the bird box again.
