    Make a Garden

    • Try your hand at gardening during the summer months. Ask your parents for a spot of land in the back or side yard of your home to start your garden. Start with vegetables for your first gardening project; these can include green beans, peppers, squash, lettuce or cabbage and tomatoes. Once you choose your vegetables, then determine if you need an area with full sun, partial sun or shade. You can determine what sun factor you need simply by reading the information card on the vegetables that you choose. Plant your vegetables and tend to them daily. Once they have grown, encourage your parents to use them while cooking the next meal.

    Learn to Sew

    • Beat the heat by staying inside and learning to sew. You can find free sewing projects in books from the local library or download them online. Try something simple such as a tote bag, purse or reusable grocery bag. You can do basic sewing using scraps of fabric, a needle and thread; an electric sewing machine is not necessary when learning to sew. Once you are comfortable with a few projects, invite your girlfriends over and teach them how to sew or make them gifts from your new skill.

    Become a Chef

    • Turn up the heat in the kitchen and learn to cook or bake, as long as you have your parent's permission. Cooking and baking involve attention to detail and experimenting with different flavors and spices to find a combination that you enjoy. Look through your cookbooks or check out cookbooks from the library and start experimenting. If you want something a little sweeter than try your hand at baking sweets such as cupcakes and breads.

    Create Jewelry

    • Stay on top of trends and create beaded jewelry for yourself. Jewelry-making is fairly simple and easy to master once you have the proper tools. Search for a design you want to create such as a one-strand bracelet, and purchase the necessary tools you will need to put it together. Customize the bracelet with your favorite colors, beads and jewels to make it one-of-a-kind. Invite girlfriends over for a summer jewelry-making session.
